This course trains students in the American Red Cross Lifeguard, First Aid and CPR/AED for the Professional Rescuer training. Learn the skills you will need to work at a pool. Upon successful completion participants will receive a Lifeguard Training and First Aid and CPR/AED for the Professional Rescuer certificate valid for two years. Be prepared to be both in and out of the water each day of class. Bring pencil and paper, swimsuit, warm clothes and towels each day and snacks for the long days.

Students must be 15 years old by the last day of the class and successfully complete and pass the precourse swim skills. Swim skill evaluation will be done the day before the class starts.

Prerequisites:

1. Swim 300 yards continuously, using front crawl with rhythmic breathing (to the side or front) and a stabilizing, propellant kick. and/or breaststroke using a pull, breathe, kick and glide sequence.

2. Start in the water, swim 20 yards using front crawl or breaststroke, surface dive 7-10 feet, retrieve a 10-pound object, return to the surface, swim 20 yards back to the starting point with the object and exit the water without using a ladder or steps, within 1 minute, 40 seconds.

3. Tread water for 2 minutes with hands in armpits.
